The project context.

Suroj Buildcon was executing the KEI VCV Tower project at Sanand, Gujarat, which involved a highly complex and reinforcement-intensive foundation system.

The foundation had extremely dense reinforcement, creating practical challenges related to steel placement, bar congestion, concrete flow, aggregate movement, workmanship, and site execution.

The project involved a record-scale concrete pour, making pre-construction planning and constructability validation extremely critical.

There was a risk that the reinforcement arrangement suggested at design stage could create execution difficulties on site due to limited spacing and congestion.

Accurate formwork understanding and quantity calculation were also required to support planning, procurement, and execution.

What the team needed.

  • To digitally model the foundation reinforcement in detail and support the project team with accurate BBS information.
  • To identify reinforcement congestion and constructability issues before site execution.
  • To review whether the reinforcement arrangement would allow proper concrete placement and aggregate flow.
  • To suggest practical reinforcement arrangement improvements while maintaining the design intent.
  • To model precise formwork families and calculate formwork quantities for better execution planning.
Foundation reinforcement and formwork in the coordinated model.

How ECOMES supported the project.

  • Developed detailed reinforcement BIM models for the VCV Tower foundation.
  • Prepared and supported bar bending schedule outputs from the model.
  • Reviewed reinforcement congestion and identified areas where steel placement was too tight for practical site execution.
  • Highlighted potential issues related to aggregate flow and concrete placement due to dense reinforcement.
  • Suggested practical steel arrangement changes to improve constructability and site execution feasibility.
  • Created precise formwork families and modelled the required formwork components.
  • Calculated formwork quantities to support planning and procurement.
  • Supported the construction team with model-based visualization and coordination inputs before execution.

When the work was delivered.

ECOMES’ scope was delivered during the critical pre-construction and execution-planning phase of the foundation works.

The work was carried out on a fast-track basis to support reinforcement validation, BBS preparation, formwork planning, and execution readiness before major foundation concreting activities.

What the study enabled.

  • Improved clarity on reinforcement placement before execution.
  • Helped identify and resolve steel congestion risks digitally before they became site issues.
  • Supported practical reinforcement arrangement improvements for better concrete placement and aggregate flow.
  • Enabled more reliable BBS and formwork quantity understanding.
  • Helped the project team plan and execute a highly complex foundation with greater confidence.
  • Demonstrated the value of detailed BIM, reinforcement modelling, and constructability review for complex structural works.
